Space Day

We celebrate National Space Day on the first Friday in May, which is May 6 this year. It was created to inspire all of us in the pursuit of knowledge and progress. There’s so much going on in the universe, it definitely deserves a day to reflect on everything!

The History of Space Exploration

During the time that has passed since the launching of the first artificial satellite in 1957, astronauts have traveled to the moon, probes have explored the solar system, and instruments in space have discovered thousands of planets around other stars.

The Grace of the Worlds: Beautiful Planets

The poet Wendell Berry wrote about the power of nature to ease the mind: "I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free."
Even when we can't see them, the stars and other wonders of the universe are always there, and the "grace of the world" — or the many worlds of our solar system — can offer inspiration. These NASA resources will help you find and enjoy some of that beauty.
